BioCUBES - Biogenic CO2 capture and utilization from Swiss biogas plants: Technical, economical and environmental analysis.

In the project BioCUBES, we analyze the potential for carbon capture and utilization (CCU) value chains at Swiss biogas plants. As biogas plants emit biogenic CO2, utilizing this CO2 can contribute to defossilizing a range of industrial applications. Key objectives include quantifying the biogenic CO2 emissions at existing biogas plants, estimating the feasible capture potential, analyzing cost-effectiveness of diverse CCU pathways, and assessing the pathways’ climate change impacts by conducting life cycle assessments. We will explore both the current systems and evaluate prospective scenarios, with a focus on expanding manure-based biogas plants and emerging CCU pathways.

This project is funded by the Swiss Federal
Office of Energy and a cooperation with the consulting company external page Planair.
