SUSTAIN Assess and Integrate Nature

SUSTAIN will provide businesses (i.e. real economy actors), financial institutions, and regulatory bodies with the knowledge and resources to better understand, assess, and monitor the dependencies and impacts on nature from activities in different sectors of the economy. Our multi-disciplinary team brings together leading experts with backgrounds in ecology, conservation, economics, social sciences, and academic research. Together we will: 1) provide an enhanced knowledge base on dependencies and impacts of economic activities on biodiversity and ecosystem services (BES), validated by businesses; 2) develop methods to reduce biodiversity- and ecosystem service-related risks and increase opportunities through innovative research and modelling techniques; 3) package the knowledge base in a toolbox1 that can be used by businesses and financial institutions to understand, assess, measure and monitor dependencies and impacts on biodiversity; 4) develop and disseminate business case materials drawing on this knowledge base; 5) engage with key stakeholders from the business, finance, regulatory and intergovernmental spheres (in particular the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, IPBES) drawing on the consortium’s considerable relationships and networks.
