The Group

The group of Ecological Systems Design (ESD) was established in January 2006. Together with the previous Institute of Hydromechanics and Water Management, a new institute was founded: the Institute of Environmental Engineering. The new Institute had the aim of broadening the research from initially mainly water-related activities to environmental engineering in general. The ESD group was part of this strategy, adding the research field of environmental assessment tools and industrial ecology to the research portfolio of the institute.

In the teaching, the ESD group is in charge of the Module “Ecological Systems Design” and “Waste Management” within the Master program. The Group also holds several mandatory courses in the Bachelor program of Environmental Engineering and participates in lectures of other study programs at ETH Zurich.
